Black Music Month is June

This month is Black Music Month and Philadelphia is defintely celebrating. The Roots kicked off the month with their picnic at Penns Landing! Wiz Khalifa, Esperanza Spalding, Nas and many more joined them. Also that same day the 27th Annual Celebration of Black Writing Festival happened at Temple University.
Odunde is this weekend, it's the 36th year and their will be of course music, dance and food inspired by African and African-American cultures. The third weekend their is the 8th West Oak Lane Jazz and Arts Festival. There is much more to come! I will keep you posted with Philadelphia!
Philadelphia is a city filled with talent, Soul-ful singers, poetry and dancers. I mean poets that rock out cafes! I even know break-dancers personally. You can catch them at the Rotunda every last Thrusday of the month. The DJ is rocking hits from the 70s and 80s. I means it's like you walk into the 80s. There is even cardboard on the floor for the breakdancers, just like it was back then.
Today we have a lot of rappers, to name one that made it Meek Millz. He started out on the streets. Now he just got signed by Rick Ross. The music scene is great but it is underground. We do have the ledgendary Kenny and Gamble Huff. If you don't know them and your from Philly, you don't know your history. There the greatest label that came out of Philadelphia. There songs still play on commercials today and also the commercial world. You probably heard one of their songs at the movie theater. There is more to come!
